Agrocampus Ouest is a centre for higher education and research in agriculture, food and environmental sciences, depending on the French Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries. Agrocampus ouest is also a recent co-founder of European University of Brittany.
There are two centers : One campus is located in Rennes, Brittany, in the westernmost part of France including a site on the seaside (Beg-Meil, Finistère) and the other one is located in Angers (Pays de Loire).
Within Agrocampus Ouest, among various departments, the Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Center constitutes the only institute in France in charge of a polytechnical and multidisciplinary graduate and post-graduate programs in fisheries science & aquaculture (900 students were graduated since 1970).
It is involved in various training programs leading to national diplomas: Master of Fisheries Sciences and Aquaculture, Master of Marine Sciences, specialized in Marine Resources and Coastal Environment Economics (collaboration with the University of Western Brittany), PhD in Fisheries sciences.
Agrocampus ouest is a part of several Doctoral Schools. Doctoral theses can be carried within the Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences Center or in various other partner research institutes (Ifremer, IRD, Inra universities,...). The scientists participate to research activities through two Research Pooled Units with INRA teams: ESE (Ecologie et Health of Ecosystems) and SMART (Structures and Agricultural Markets, Resources et Territories). These research units work together with other institutes (IRD, Ifremer, University of Western Brittany) and other foreign research institutes. They lead or collaborate to European, international and national research projects.
